Boots — known as "Boots 4 Burns" — serves alongside Director Joe Pick at the Firefighters Burn Institute, bringing comfort and calm to burn survivors and the first responders who care for them.
Director Joe Pick
Director Joe Pick has dedicated his career to serving those who serve others. As the leader of the Firefighters Burn Institute, he oversees programs that support burn survivors, firefighters, and first responders across Northern California. His firsthand experience in the fire service gave him a deep understanding of the physical and emotional toll the job demands — and a conviction that peer support and animal-assisted wellness are not optional extras, but essential tools. Under his leadership, Boots has become a cornerstone of the Institute's outreach, bringing comfort to patients at burn camps, Shriners Hospital, and community events where words alone fall short.
